From Magda Thielemans’ personal method and lessons, Physical Awareness has developed within the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp into a pluralistic methodology taught by a LAB-O team. Content unique in approach and method, and often linked to a teacher’s own artistic pedagogical practice, the LAB-Os together form a holistic vision that supports and raises awareness of the student needs at different stages of learning.
The Conservatoire team consists of teachers with expertise in contemporary dance, drama, Mime corporel, physiotherapy, Alexander technique, yoga and psychotherapy. The teachers work not alongside but with each other.
Their unique methods, approaches, experiences, tips, exercises are given a place within LAB-Os. Thus, together we build a living archive. We offer this material on this website.
Some LAB-O’s offer practical examples, lessons and exercises in addition to basic information. Want to see the complete LAB-O with practical examples? Request access via the contact form.

LAB SH / Sylvie Huysman
In my Physical Artistic Awareness classes, on the one hand I emphasize a basic knowledge and basic awareness of the body, certain muscle groups and the skeleton per se. Not in a theoretical way, but by feeling and doing.

LAB HH / Helga Henckens

Sharing YOUR expertise
With LAB-O we create a learning community that wants to reach beyond its own conservatory.
LAB-O wants to become a knowledge circle: everyone is invited to contribute within a certain framework
